Pier 24 San Francisco

Just saw the current exhibition “Here” at Pier 24 in San Francisco, and it’s amazing.  Pier 24 is photogrphy exhibition space created from the Pilara Foundation’s collection of some 2000 important photographs.  Go check it out.  The most recent show is of Bay Area photographers as well as image of San Francisco throughout the last century.  The gallery is free, but you need to make an appointment ahead of time.  And don’t be frightened by the sucurity and air-lock doors.

On July 23rd, 2011, celebrated singer-songwriter sensation Amy Winehouse died of unknown causes at the age of 27. Amy now joins the “27 Club,” which is a group of musicians that includes individuals such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Kurt Cobain. The “27 club” are individuals with iconic cultural status as famed celebrities who tragically died at the same age. In response to producing an altar to the dead, Kitsch House is exploring the concepts of life and death of celebrities in American society. The wooden framing of the Kitsch House altar and black color scheme references a vacuous and empty vessel much like the societal construction of a famous individual’s celebrity. Whether at the backstage door before a concert (in life), or at the funeral site (in death), teddy bears and balloons act as common ritual objects between a superfanboy and a celebrity who doesn’t even know him.

I’m in the October issue of ARTFORUM!

Well, it’s not like I have a review or anything, but the San Francisco Art Institute did use the image of my End of What Trail? sculpture in a half page advertisement for their graduate programs. Of course this is just the beginning of my long and fruitful relationship with ARTFORUM, I’m sure soon enough they won’t be able to get enough of me.  Go buy a copy for you and all your friends!!!!!!!!
